Livelihoods

Between September 2019 – June 2020, Horn Vision in Partnership with UNICEF we have implemented a social protection project that provide 100 youth (at least 50% girls), including young girls at risk of illegal migration ‘Tahriib’, returnees from Tahriib, victims of human smuggling, GBV survivors, girls from vulnerable IDPs and minority communities, with social innovation, entrepreneurship and life skills training to develop innovative and self – employing ideas, products and services which benefits the wider community. We targeted15 youth groups of diverse ventures (from 14 to 24 years of age). They were mobilized and facilitated to generate innovative and marketable business ideas that will be supported with start-up funds. As a consolidation to gains made during phase of the of the UPSHIFT project,in August 2020, HV was awarded a second phase of the UPSHIFT youth livelihoods project integrating COVID – 19 responses through social innovation. UPSHIFT PHASEII was primarily intended to support enhanced protection and participation of adolescent and youth in COVID - 19 prevention and response

In collaboration with the Local Intiative for Education (LIFE) and the Puntland Ministry of Women Development and Family Affairs (MoWDAFA), conducted 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Bossaso and surrounding vicinities between 25th of November and 10th December 2018. During the period awareness raising activities were conducted by writing and disseminating messages against gender-based violence (GBV). Lectures on GBV and the existing laws, focusing on domestic violence and this was followed by survivors sharing their success stories. An additional session was related to women empowerment and gender equality as essential social factors that are considered to be fundamental for a happy society including but not limited to: availability of food, clothes, shelter, healthcare facilities and education for all.
